Canal House overlooks the Keizersgracht, on the western side of the canal belt. Across the Prinsengracht lies the Jordaan, a neighbourhood of narrow lanes, art galleries and traditional brown cafés. The Nine Streets, with their independent boutiques and vintage shops, are a short walk south. The Anne Frank House is about three minutes away on foot, and the Westermarkt tram stop is close by.
Three 17th-Century Merchant Houses
The hotel occupies three adjoining merchant houses. Original features such as timber beams, ornate ceilings and fireplaces have been carefully restored. The interiors take their palette from Dutch Golden Age paintings, with deep colours, silks and velvets.
Rooms from Cosy to Grand
Rooms are graded from Good to Best. All have Egyptian cotton bedding, tea and coffee, and Green & Spring toiletries, and many feature a modern take on the traditional porcelain washstand. Larger rooms add velvet sofas and more period detail. The two Outstanding rooms have canal views and an in-room bath, and the Best Room has its own lounge and a bath for two.
Garden, Great Room & Bar
There is no restaurant, but all guests receive a buffet breakfast. The Great Room, overlooking the hotel's large garden, serves it. The bar at the front of the hotel is a cosy spot for a cocktail or a Dutch beer.
