Istanbul is made for romance. Watch the Old City's minarets turn gold at dusk, then take a ferry between Europe and Asia. By evening, the Bosphorus bridges glow in changing colours.
We picked each hotel for the moments it creates. Many face the Bosphorus, with balconies and waterside terraces made for long breakfasts and sunset drinks. Several are former palaces and Ottoman landmarks, and nearly all have spas where you can unwind together. Closer to the great sights, a few intimate hotels in the Old City and Galata have rooms with real history and character.
Whatever you do all day, the evenings here are yours.

Çengelköy, on the Asian Shore
Vakko Sumahan sits right on the water in Çengelköy, one of the most charming villages on the Bosphorus's Asian shore. Tea gardens and beloved breakfast cafés line its waterfront beneath old plane trees, and the elegant Beylerbeyi Palace sits a short drive south. The hotel's own jetty and boat transfers make crossing to the European side quick and memorable.
From Distillery to Vakko Hotel
The building began life as a 19th-century Ottoman distillery, and its tall arched windows and stone walls still tell that story. Vakko, Turkey's celebrated fashion house, has brought its signature elegance to the interiors, pairing the historic architecture with refined, understated design and discreet privacy.
Rooms Facing the Bosphorus
Starting at 30 square metres, every room and suite overlooks the Bosphorus through tall arched windows. Some Maisonette rooms are very spacious and feature a private garden terrace with sunbeds and a dining table. Butler service, personal shopping and made-to-measure tailoring are all on hand.
Caviar Kaspia & Le Specialità
Istanbul's first Caviar Kaspia brings the celebrated Parisian caviar house to the Bosphorus, serving its signature dishes with impressive water views. Vakko Le Specialità offers Italian cooking, while Vakko L'Atelier serves refined pastries and chocolates.
The Vakko Hamam
Inspired by the bathing houses of the Ottoman era, the Vakko Hamam is an intimate, deeply restful space for traditional rituals of exfoliation, bathing and purification. You can also enjoy treatments in the privacy of your suite, and a well-equipped exercise room is complemented by Technogym kits delivered to your room on request.

The Imperial Shipyard
Aliée sits within the restored Tersane-i Amire, the Ottoman imperial shipyard on the Golden Horn, where historic stone buildings now house restaurants, shops and galleries along a new waterfront promenade. Galata Tower and Istiklal Avenue are about five minutes away by car, and the hotel's private boats make it easy and memorable to cross to the Old City or cruise up the Bosphorus.
Cinematic Design in Historic Stone
Los Angeles-based Powerstrip Studio designed the interiors across the hotel's historic buildings, blending centuries-old heritage with modern sophistication. In the Casthouse, ancient stone walls rise to seven-metre ceilings, a curated art collection runs throughout, and creative workshops, from Ebru marbling to cyanotype printing, bring Istanbul's artistic heritage to life.
Rooms in Natural Stone
Each individually designed room, 32 square metres or larger, pairs natural stone and soft light with organic textiles and copper bathtubs. Suites add terraces and verandas, some looking over the Golden Horn. Atrium rooms connect to neighbouring rooms and suites, and the Heritage Villa sleeps six.
Taste & the Swim Club
Taste by Thomas Bühner, led by the acclaimed German chef, is the culinary centrepiece. Hasbahçe serves Neapolitan pizza in the gardens with views over the Golden Horn, while the Aliée Swim Club brings a glamorous beach-club feel, with DJ sets and sunset parties. After dark, Mondaine de Pariso adds Parisian-style nightlife.
Aliée Well+
Aliée Well+ is one of Istanbul's most ambitious spas: a three-storey wellness world that feels like a grand Roman bath. Marble hammams, lagoon-style pools and contrast therapy sit alongside infrared, Finnish and Russian saunas, and a Longevity Clinic offers personalised health programmes. Outside, the Swim Club's lagoon pool flows into an Olympic lap pool beside the water.

Karaköy & Galataport
The Peninsula stands on Galataport's waterfront promenade in Karaköy, one of Istanbul's most creative neighbourhoods. The surrounding streets are lined with speciality coffee shops, galleries, street art, and small restaurants, and Karaköy's famous baklava shops are nearby. Istanbul Modern is a five-minute walk along the water, Galata Tower is a short climb uphill, and the tram crosses the Galata Bridge to the Old City.
Maritime Landmarks, Turkish Craft
The hotel spans four buildings, three of them restored maritime landmarks, including the historic passenger terminal. Turkish designer Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu created interiors rich in local craftsmanship, from wood and mother-of-pearl inlay to kilim-style carpets and Marmara marble.
Rooms with Bosphorus Views
Every room has at least 40 square metres, with deep soaking tubs in marble bathrooms. Entry categories overlook Karaköy, while Bosphorus categories overlook the water and the Old City skyline. The finest suites add garden terraces or, at the very top, a private rooftop pool. For larger groups, the hotel offers family and connecting rooms.
Gallada & The Lobby
Gallada is the signature restaurant, set on the rooftop of the historic passenger terminal. Michelin-starred chef Fatih Tutak cooks Turk-Asian dishes inspired by the Silk Road, and Topside Bar sits just above. The Lobby serves Mediterranean dishes and the Peninsula's classic afternoon tea, while Abelia Pool offers mezze and sushi in private cabanas.
Spa & 25-Metre Pool
The Peninsula Spa is one of Istanbul's most impressive, a calm world of Marmara marble and soft light. Hammams, saunas and a tea lounge set an unhurried pace, and the 25-metre indoor pool plays music underwater. Outside, a second pool runs along the Bosphorus, framed by landscaped gardens and private cabanas, with ships sliding past as you swim.

Çırağan Palace faces the Bosphorus on the European shore, with the wooded slopes of Yıldız Park rising behind it. A pleasant waterfront walk leads to Ortaköy, with its baroque mosque, lively cafés, weekend craft stalls and famous stuffed potatoes, while Beşiktaş's fish restaurants and meyhanes lie the other way. Dolmabahçe Palace is nearby, and the Old City is about a 20-minute drive away.
A Sultan's Palace on the Water
Built in the 19th century for Sultan Abdülaziz, the palace is one of the Bosphorus shore's great landmarks. Marble halls, high ceilings, and palm-fringed gardens that run down to the water give the hotel the feel of a waterfront resort in the city's heart.
Rooms & Palace Suites
Most rooms sit in the hotel building beside the palace, dressed in rich fabrics with Ottoman touches, and the entry-level rooms start at a generous 32 square metres. Views take in Yıldız Park, the gardens or the Bosphorus, and many water-facing rooms have balconies. The palace also offers the grand suites that made Çırağan famous, and connecting rooms make it an easy choice for families.
Tuğra, Bellini & Laledan
Tuğra is the fine-dining centrepiece, serving Ottoman recipes researched from the palace archives beneath high ceilings and marble columns. Bellini brings Italian cuisine to the historic palace, and Laledan is known for its breakfasts and Sunday brunch. The Gazebo Lounge serves afternoon tea, while Le Fumoir offers an evening drink.
Sanitas Spa & Infinity Pool
The heated infinity pool is the hotel's showpiece, stretching along the water's edge so that swimmers seem to float on the Bosphorus itself, with ships gliding past. It stays open all year, even in the depths of winter. Below ground, the Sanitas Spa is a quiet, softly lit retreat with a traditional Turkish hammam, an indoor pool, a sauna and a full menu of massages and treatments.
